About

Calm, honest help for a strange kind of luck.

Windfall Survival exists for one reason: sudden money is far more dangerous than anyone warns you, and almost nobody offers help that is both practical and humane.

Most of what is written about coming into money is either a dry financial planning checklist or a lurid list of winners who went broke. Neither one helps the actual person sitting at the kitchen table at two in the morning, holding a life-changing number and feeling not joy but a strange, jangling fear. That person is our reader.

What we believe

We believe the money is not the danger. You are. Every way a windfall destroys a life runs through a human decision, and the decisive one is almost always the winner's own. That sounds harsh, but it is the best news there is, because it means the one thing you most need to manage is the one thing you actually can: yourself.

We believe the first, most protective move is almost always to slow down. Tell almost no one. Sign nothing. Build a small team of independent, fee-only professionals before you spend a dime. And aim, in the end, not for an exciting fortune but a boring, secure, lasting one.

What we are not

We are not financial advisors, and nothing we publish is personalized financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. We do not tell you what to buy. We do not promise returns. What we offer is education and a decision process: the questions to ask, the traps to avoid, and the kinds of professionals to hire, so that the real decisions about your specific money are made with a qualified fiduciary who is legally obligated to act in your interest.

We also never invent statistics or cite studies that do not exist. When we point to research or authoritative guidance, we link to the real source so you can read it yourself.

Start with the survival guide.

The complete library, The Pinata Is You and its four companions, walks through the whole dangerous first year and the long game that follows. See the books.
